Building in Context is a training programme that gives decision makers the tools to recognise how projects can respond well to their surroundings.

Aimed at local authority Design Champions and Heritage Champions, the training programme is being offered to Local Authorities in all of England's regions.

Places Matter! in partnership with CABE and English Heritage has delivered a series of Building in Context Workshops across the Northwest.

The Wigan workshop groups assessed the potential of the former town hall and adjacent site to help revitalise an area on the southeast edge of the town centre that has become disconnected from the riverside residential areas by the inner bypass.
