Session 1: City Exploration
Tuesday 26th October if you're in Liverpool
Wednesday 27th October if you're in Manchester
Lunch provided.
See your city in a completely different way. Take a tour of your city centre by a local architect and learn about what makes a city unique.
Session 2: Is this a ‘Neighbourhood’ and Parkour
Friday 29th October, Salford (both Liverpool and Manchester groups)
Lunch provided.
Today, you will meet the participants from the other city. Together you will visit a unique housing scheme in Salford and have the opportunity to speak to its designers and the people who live there. After lunch you’ll work with Northern Parkour – the urban free runners – interacting with buildings and public spaces in a completely different way.
Session 3: Site visit and exploration
Wednesday 3rd November if you're from Manchester
Thursday 4th November if you're from Liverpool
You’ll be going to our site and looking at a group of new apartments on the outskirts of the city centre. Here you’ll be finding out what it’s like to live there - what works, what doesn’t work and how you could design something to make it better. You’ll be given the chance to ask the decision makers why it was designed the way it was and challenge their ideas.
Session 4 and 5: Weekend Design Challenge
Saturday 13th November and Sunday 14th November, Manchester and Liverpool
Lunch provided.
A two day design challenge where you will work in teams to come up with a solution that will make the area you looked at in session 3 a better place to live. You’ll be using drawing, model making and photographs, and getting creative to come up with new design solutions.
Session 6: Presentation prep
Saturday 20th November, Liverpool (both Liverpool and Manchester groups)
Lunch provided.
Present your design ideas to each other and the participants from the other city. Look at the different ideas that have developed and think how they may work in reality. In the afternoon you’ll be taking part in a hands-on workshop – designing in quick fire time.
Session 7: What’s art got to do with it?
Thursday 25 November if you're from Manchester
Friday 26th November if you're from Liverpool
Is art important? Can it improve the places where we live? After a tour of some of the cities best public art you’ll have an opportunity to design your own art work which will compliment your whole design.
Session 8: Evening Event
Evening event 2nd December
Liverpool John Moores University
The final celebration event will give you an opportunity to all get together and present them to a wider audience, including your family, and celebrate all the hard work that you have done.
