Teacher Training and Support 2010/11
A core part of our activity was a programme of free CPD workshops for teachers and student teachers from across the Northwest. Sessions helped teachers to enhance the curriculum using the built environment, a fantastic free and accessible resource. Sessions were hands-on and open to teachers from a wide range of curriculum areas.
The three one day courses for September – December 2010 were:
Inclusive Design
This session was delivered on the 21st October and looked at ways of evaluating and experiencing towns and cities, and how the design influences the way that we use and understand the built environment. We explored how people with diverse needs and abilities use space differently and how designers create spaces that have varied functions, attracting a range of user groups. This session develops a range of skills and approaches for looking at and evaluating public space. The teaching resources from this session can be found by clicking here...
Can you build successful communities?
How important is the design of an individual building? Can good design help to make better communities? How do architects’ and planners’ ideas actually work out in practice? This course is an interactive workshop and offers ideas and resources for a range of subject specific and cross curricular learning.
The role of art in towns and cities
Public art and monuments have helped to define towns and cities throughout the ages. Today, some argue they play an increasingly important role in the regeneration and development of towns and cities.
This session looked at public art in the city, leading to developing ideas for a new piece of work that is appropriate for and reflects a local community.
