ixia - Public Art Professional Development Seminar 4: Public Art and BSF

This event is now fully booked. Apologies for any inconvenience.

Places Matter! has partnered with ixia, the public art think tank, to deliver a series of public art seminars in the Northwest.

The seminars will enable attendees to reflect upon contemporary public art practice and to develop their understanding of specific contexts and issues which support and influence the delivery of public art. The seminars have been devised for artists, curators, public art consultants and representatives of public and private sector organisations that promote and commission public art. In addition to hearing from speakers, attendees will be encouraged to engage actively in discussions and to reflect upon their own work in relation to the issues discussed.

For more information about the series of seminars, click here...

Cost: The cost for each seminar is £60.00 + VAT including lunch and refreshments. You will be invoiced upon making a provisional booking for the event. Your place will be confirmed when payment has been received.

The seminars are supported by Arts Council England: www.artscouncil.org.uk

Seminar 4: Public Art and Building Schools for the Future (BSF)
Seminar Location:
urbis, Cathedral Gdns, Manchester, M4 3BG
Date: Wednesday 27 January 2010, 10.00am - 4.00pm (registration 9.30am)

The Government claims that BSF is the largest capital investment programme in schools in England for fifty years. Partnerships for Schools (PfS) is the government agency responsible for its delivery and has recently announced that every local authority must set up a mandatory Cultural Stakeholder Group responsible for advising on arts provision within BSF schools. As a result, the inclusion of public art within BSF is being promoted by PfS.

In response, ixia has prepared detailed guidance about public art and BSF. The seminar is based on the guidance and will provide accurate information about current policy and practice and give advice on how to create opportunities for public art within BSF. It will be led by Andrew Siddall and Kim Tilbrook. Andrew Siddall is Director of civic Architects and member of The British Council for Schools Environments (BCSE). He is currently advising Salford City Council on its BSF programme. Kim Tilbrook is Lead Developer: Creative Places for the Real Ideas Organisation, recent winners, with Somerset County Council BSF team, of the Partnership for Schools ‘Innovation in Student Engagement’ award 2009 for their work together.
