Description: St Francis Xavier’s is a stunning Grade II*-listed Victorian Catholic Church. The nave was designed by JJ Scholes and was opened in 1848. The Lady Chapel, which is the size of a small parish church was designed by Edmund Kirby and opened in 1887. There will be displays of some of the church’s outstanding collection of Victorian church plate and vestments. Enjoy a tour of the church at 2pm each day. On Sunday 12 September at 3.30pm, Cheniston Roland will give a talk on Sir Charles Santley, the famous Victorian tenor and Queen Victoria’s favourite singer. He was one of the first people to have his voice recorded and there will be a chance to hear this historic recording.
