RIBA CPD Northern Network - Building Regulations Update and Moving Toward Zero Carbon

Wednesday 10th February 2010 : 9.30am – 1pm, Knutsford

With the continuing changes to the Building Regulations and with the move towards zero carbon, it is imperative that the modern building professional is aware of these regulatory updates and the impact of carbon reduction on future emissions. The seminar will provide an overview of sustainability, an examination of the recent changes to Approved Document G and proposed changes to Approved Document L and will provide the delegate with an understanding of the regulatory measures in place currently and measures that may be introduced in the move towards zero carbon.

The seminar content will include:
• What is Sustainability?
• An overview of Approved Document L 2006
• Why the need for change?
• The proposals for Approved Document L 2010 - Implications for the designer
• What is the definition of Zero Carbon?
• The role of Building Control and Development Control in the move towards zero carbon
• An overview of the changes to Approved Document G
• Future changes to the Building Regulations

Speaker: Andy Foolkes BSc. (Hons) MBEng MCIOB. Andy has been a Building Control Professional for the last 6 years and has worked for Butler & Young Approved Inspectors for the last 4 years. In addition to his regular Building Control duties, he has provided seminars on behalf of Butler & Young Ltd to a number of Architects, Engineers and Contractors throughout the North of England. He has also presented to professional institutions namely the Chartered Institute of Building and Royal Institute of British Architects.
