RIBA CPD Northern Network - PassivHaus: Can this standard harm your health?
Wednesday 20th January 2010 : 9.30am – 1pm, Knutsford
Buildings are responsible for approximately 40% of energy demand both in the UK and Europewide.
This Seminar will start with three key questions:-
1. Is the Construction industry willing to address climate change?
2. If it is willing, does it have a) the knowledge and b) the skills and c) the capacity to deliver on the modest, yet necessary, targets being established by politicians.
3. What are the consequences of addressing carbon targets to the exclusion of other considerations – especially those which will be a direct result of making buildings better insulated and more airtight?
‘Sustainable Construction’ with a working definition and a clear framework for practitioners. There will then be an introduction to the concept of Ecominimalism - the antidote to Eco-bling as an approach to delivering Green buildings at no extra cost. This will then lead on to the issues of concern in Sick Buildings past, present and - worryingly - future. The final session will outline strategies for delivering healthy buildings at affordable costs using worked examples and Case Studies from the UK and Europe. If delegates have projects of their own they wish to discuss – in open session or in private - it is hoped that time can be made available for this.
