Guild Take Off – Call for Projects
Preston Guild 2012 offers the opportunity for exciting and explosively creative projects to take over the city from individual streets to tower-block rooftops in a dynamic, artistic celebration for the Guild.
The Guild, our historic festival, happens every 20 years celebrating the city’s trades, industries, and people, and such an event is not
found anywhere else in the UK. We are aiming to make 2012 the most innovative and high profile celebration yet. We’ve developed the right creative and funding conditions in Preston that will enable us to commission a wide-ranging variety of outstanding and complementary creative projects – and we’re looking for projects that together will send the message of the Guild worldwide.
We will curate a Guild Take Off programme that is a reflection of Preston’s unique characteristics, its gritty determination, and its unmistakable potential. We believe that the calibre of the festival emphasises the creative confidence and a taste for quality that will feed the Preston creative scene for generations to come. We welcome all ideas, from the intimate to the monumental and the celebratory to the challenging.
In 2012 our theme is Innovation and Creativity. We are encouraging you to think big and think differently and to develop cultural events which
truly connect with those ideals. Think Big doesn’t mean a project has to be big, nor must it be run by professionals to qualify. We are aiming
for a diverse mix of high profile large scale events alongside smaller jewels. We are particularly keen to encourage you to work in new
contexts and with new collaborative partners, whether they are other artists or organisations or communities new to you.
