This month sees the launch of three design competitions and awards, including: an international open design competition in Whitehaven; the Salford Good Design Awards; and, The 2011 Civic Trust Awards.

Whitehaven Design Competition

RIBA Competitions is pleased to announce the launch of a two-stage, International Open Design Competition on behalf of Britain’s Energy Coast West Cumbria and Magnus Homes.  The competition, to select an architect-led team to design a circa GBP £10m mixed-use development on a prominent site adjacent to Whitehaven Harbour, is being organised with the support of Places Matter! the architecture centre for the Northwest.

The Salford Good Design Awards

Salford City Council’s dedication to design remains at the forefront of the city’s agenda with the launch of the council’s own Good Design Awards. The most innovative development schemes and striking restoration projects are to be honoured at a spectacular awards ceremony at Salford Quays in November.

The 2011 civic Trust Awards Application Round is now open

The 2010 Civic Trust Awards received 23 entries from the North West and was the most successful region in the UK, with 4 Special Awards, 5 schemes winning Awards and 1 Commendation. These included the Liverpool One development, ‘Dream’ – the sculpture in St Helens and the restoration of the Midland Hotel in Morecambe.
