Urban Design – An Introduction

Share

Successful Urban Design deploys a number of tools for a variety of people involved in shaping individual places whether as clients, designers, funders or users.  When places work well it is because they incorporate principles of good urban design practice into their fabric, layout and management.  Places Matter! in partnership with the Urban Design Group hosted a series of one day workshops for people from local authorities, public and private sector and relevant interest groups seeking to explore the core elements of urban design and its application in a variety of settings.  A combination of presentations and practical exercises each workshop day delivered the following:

  • An introduction to urban design issues
  • The application of urban design practice in a variety of settings
  • An understanding of design quality, and
  • How to influence the delivery of appropriate quality through the design process
The series covered:

Neighbourhood Planning
Direct Democracy
Urban Design and Public health
