Do
you work with young people in the region? Have you delivered an
education programme that engages 14-19 year olds in architecture and
the built environment? Places Matter! has launched a new research
project which aims to identify and promote projects involved in the
delivery of educational activity that relates to the built
environment in the Northwest. The aim of the study is to address the
existing gap in knowledge of the wide range of education activity
relating to the built environment in the region. Interested? Find out more…

Taking
its cue from architect Carolyn Steel’s inspirational book, Hungry
City, and the Cittaslow movement, Happy City is a day of discussion
and workshops in Liverpool exploring alternative ways of planning
our cities and redesigning the neighbourhoods within them, starting
with the premise of not simply providing more houses but improving
the quality of the spaces between them and the lives of their
inhabitants. Speakers include architects, artists, urban farmers and
human geographers. Book your place now by visiting our website.

Places
Matter! has partnered with ixia, the public art think tank, to
deliver a series of public art seminars in the Northwest. The
seminars will enable attendees to reflect upon contemporary public
art practice and to develop their understanding of specific contexts
and issues which support and influence the delivery of public art.
The seminars have been devised for artists, curators, public art
consultants and representatives of public and private sector
organisations that promote and commission public art. In addition to
hearing from speakers, attendees will be encouraged to engage
actively in discussions and to reflect upon their own work in
relation to the issues discussed. The seminars will take place
during autumn/winter 2009/10 at locations across the Northwest
addressing a variety of topics. Interested? Find out more…
