Places Matter! goes Christmas Crackers

Places Matter! the regional architecture and built environment centre for the Northwest has announced this years winners of its Christmas Crackers, an annual festive awards scheme for outstanding contributions to design and the built environment. CABE awards new funding to Northwest architecture centre

CABE, the governments advisor on architecture, urban design and public space, has awarded Places Matter! the architecture centre for the Northwest 40,925 pounds in support of its activities in 2010 & 2011. The new funding is part of 900,000 pounds CABE is giving to 21 architecture and built environment centres across England for projects aligned with CABEs core work: built environment education; promoting regional design review; and training for design and built environment professionals. Places Matter! Education

Places Matter! Education is delighted to invite school pupils to participate in two exciting events: Year 10 Built Environment Pupil Conference, an exciting one day conference about architecture and the built environment 22 March 2010 at the BT Convention Centre, Liverpool; and, Architecture for Everyone where thirty 16 to 19 year olds from Liverpool and Manchester will have the opportunity to participate in a national Campaign between February and April 2010. ixia - Public Art Professional Development Seminar 5: Public Art and the Planning System

This seminar will present ixias findings from its ongoing review of the relationship between public art and the planning system. It will include guidance on: the implications of the Advice ixia commissioned from a leading planning barrister, Ian Dove QC, which states that local authorities can now require, rather than merely encourage, the provision of public art via the planning system; the purpose and content of a policy, strategy and Supplementary Planning Document for public art; and the potential impact of the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) on the provision of public art. The seminar will be led by Jonathan Banks, Chief Executive of ixia. Interested? Find out more

RIBA CPD Northern Network - PassivHaus: Can this standard harm your health?

This Seminar will start with three key questions: is the Construction industry willing to address climate change; if it is willing, does it have a) the knowledge and b) the skills and c) the capacity to deliver on the modest, yet necessary, targets being established by politicians; and, what are the consequences of addressing carbon targets to the exclusion of other considerations & especially those which will be a direct result of making buildings better insulated and more airtight?
